FreeVOCA provides over 50 communication boards which can be used for babble and sound play or as secondary communication aids. There's no editing or board creation, but a few options to organise pages and change display style are provided. The boards were originally created by parents, teachers and speech therapists as part of the PhotoVOCA Project. Several of them make use of Creative Commons ARASAAC symbols and library speech. Version 2.0 includes adds additional boards and enables repeated triggering of the same button - rather than providing the toggle control of sound as in previous releases. Scanning is supported for switch control - select 'Scan To Exit' to enable movement between the menu and boards. Push switch or tap the screen to start scanning. Using iOS Switch Control, set 'Tap Middle of Screen' as the Launch Recipe after enabling scanning in the app's settings. Once chosen, scanning will start automatically each time the app is used in future. If you wish to use switches without enabling iOS Switch Control - choose the 'Legacy Switch' setting and choose a mode on your switch box which sends character keypresses - eg RJ Cooper style, Space, Enter etc.

- If you are not logged-in the iOS appstore app, you'll be prompted for your your Apple ID and/or password.
- After FreeVOCA is downloaded, you'll see an INSTALL button to the right. Tap on it to start the actual installation of the iOS app.
- Once installation is finished you can tap on the OPEN button to start it. Its icon will also be added to your device home screen.
